Web Hosting

Question:
General info on hosting.
Answer:
What is Virtual Web Hosting?

We specialize in Virtual Web Hosting, which means that you can find a home for your web site on our Windows NT or UNIX web servers and establish a presence on the Internet. We specialize in giving you the resources to put up an online site that allows you to get your products and information across globally without having to worry about exorbitant costs or unstable systems. Purchasing your own servers, connections, routers, etc. can be costly and inefficient.

We give you the ability to "rent" space on our reliable, feature-packed systems for a minimal fee and get off to a quick start on building your site. We even help you register your own domain name (www.yourdomain.com), which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Having your own domain name does not suggest that you are renting web space and since email can be addressed to your domain (yourname@yourdomain.com) you will not have to announce a new email address if you change internet providers. Just let us worry about the technical stuff and you can focus on the actual content of your web site.

Do you offer dial-up, DSL or Cable Internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve email addressed to your site. Providing a specialized service means that we do not have hundreds of modems to maintain enabling us to devote more time to our customers and to the addition of enhancements to our specialized web hosting services.

Do you offer web page design services?

Yes, we offer web page design services,  To discuss these services and pricing, or for more information, or to get a price quote for your specific project contact wen@licketys.com

Do you have any data transfer charge for MB’s/month?

Yes. Data transfer amounts vary per package. Rarely will a user exceed the allotted amount, if they do an additional charge is added to their invoice. To view pricing please contact support@florini.net

How do I transfer files to my web site?

Files can be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you have an internet account and need FTP software, you can download a free program from http://ipswitch.com.
uploading files can also be done efficiently and easily using a site creation/publishing tool such as Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage.

Do you accept international orders?

Yes. We are pleased to have customers from around the world and we're as close as your computer!

ASP / ODBC

Question:
ASP / ODBC info.
Answer:
How can I create and use a File DSN?

The following is an example of a file DSN. They are easy to setup, and in most cases faster than a system DSN:

Set DSNConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
DSNConn.Open "DBQ=" & Server.MapPath("\database.mdb") & ";Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DriverId=25;MaxBufferSize=8192;Threads=20;", "admin", ""

What are Active Server Pages (ASP)?

Active Server Pages is a fairly new programming language designed to run active content on the server and then display the result on the viewer's browser. It is used extensively for such tasks as managing and querying on-line databases and building intuitive forms. Unlike JavaScript, which downloads the actual code into your browser and then activates, ASP pages run strictly on the server. The user triggers a request from the web page, the ASP processes it, and then sends back the requested info in purely HTML format- i.e. no actual ASP coding leaves the server and it is protected from being plagiarized. ckeck out http://www.aspin.com for great ASP resources.

What server side scripting languages are supported?

At the moment we support VBScript and JavaScript, Perl/CGI, PHP, ColdFusion and more.

Where can I place my ASP files?

Your ASP files can be placed anywhere in your web. The root directory is a good location. If there is a global.asa file it must be in the root directory.
If you will be using multiple "applications" in different subwebs then you can use multiple global.asa files but you must contact support@florini.net and have your subwebs set up this way or set these up in the control panel for Windows OS plans.

What types of databases are supported with ODBC?

We are currently supporting MS Access. MS SQL is also supported for a more advanced database option on Pro plans.

What 3rd party ASP components have already been installed which I can use?

Component list: AspMail by Stephen Genusa lets you send Email from an ASP page. More info at http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm#Aspmail ASPChart - This ASP components creates professional looking charts on the fly, so your charts remain dynamically linked to whatever information you provide them with. ASP-db PRO - Using ASP-db you can publish your Microsoft Access databases, Excel spreadsheets, SQL Server Database, or any other "ODBC" data source across the World Wide Web. If you want us to install a specific component for you, please contact support@florini.net

What should my connection string look like for a system DSN?

This will work…
Session("DataConn_ConnectionString") = "DSN=mydsn" so will this… Session("DataConn_ConnectionString") = "DSN=mydsn;UID=;PWD=" If you are trying to use a file DSN it probably won't work.

How do I use the same DSN setup on my local development computer?

You will also need to add a system DSN on your local computer for seamless operation. This can be done in your ODBC control panel.

1. Open the control panel, then double-click on the ODBC icon.
2. Select the System DSN tab. Click add for a new DSN.
3. Choose the appropriate driver (MS Access).
4. The Data Source Name should be the DSN. It should be the DSN we already set up for you.
5. Click on Database, select and choose the database file on you computer.
6. Click OK to exit.

I need to read/write files. How do I find the correct path for my site?

The correct way to do this would be using Server.MapPath. This would map the virtual path to a physical location on the disk. Ex. If you have a file in your root web called visitor.txt and you use Server.MapPath("/visitor.txt") and the physical path to you root web was "F:\webs\yourweb" then it would return: "F:\webs\yourweb\visitor.txt" If you use this method you should never have to worry about the physical paths.

Where can I find more information about programming in ASP?

ASP101 http://www.asp101.com is a great site for ASP resources! Another good place to look is at http://www.asp.net where you will find many good links and components. http://www.learnasp.com is another great resource for Active Server Pages information. Finally, http://www.aspin.com another great resource.

If I have multiple domains pointing to the same web, can I use ASP to find out which domain they used to reach my site?

This information is useful when you have multiple domains pointing to your IP and you want to redirect to the proper page according to domain name. You can use the following command in an ASP script to find the domain name used: Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_HOST") The following page shows a simple way to redirect to each domain name:

<% Dim HTTPHost HTTPHost = Lcase(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_HOST")) If HTTPHost = "www.domain1.com" then Response.Redirect ("http://www.domain1.com/dir1") End If If HTTPHost = "www.domain2.com" then Response.Redirect ("http://www.domain2.com/dir2") End If %>

You can place this script as your default.asp and place your web content in sub-webs or subdirectories. If your domain name is http://www.sample.com and someone types http://www.sample.com in their browser, they will be redirected to http://www.sample.com/. The content for http://www.sample.com would be in that directory. If you also had http://www.test.com pointing to your IP and someone typed http://www.test.com in the browser, they would be redirected to http://www.sample.com/. You can see how this can be very useful.

Can I register a custom or 3rd party component on the server?

Since certain components can cause major security and stability problems on our Windows servers, they must all be approved prior to installation. You should upload the component to your directory along with it's documentation for 3rd party components and source code for custom components. Send an email to Support with your IP address and default username along with the specific details of the component. If we approve the component, we will install it in MTS or with regsvr32.exe. If we are installing a custom component, it should be fully debugged and tested. If any component is found to compromise the system, it will be removed. There is a $25 setup fee for each registration and you must be on CorpWeb or above. The component must not be in a setup package. We will not run setup programs on our servers in order to install components due to the fact that they sometimes overwrite newer DLL's. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for registering components.

Do you support VB6 webclass DLL's?

Yes. Although the runtime is installed on most of our servers, in some cases where it is not installed, we may need to install it. We will install it when we register your component.

Do you support remote debugging of ASP?

We currently do not support remote debugging of ASP.

Do you support the VB Package and Deployment Wizard?

We do not support deployment with the PDW. You can still use your components, but not deploy them with the PDW.

Transferring your domain

Question:
Transferring your domain
Answer:
This article has been put in place in order for Florini.net. to host your domain name and associate it with your hosting service.

For this process to be completed successfully a domain name modification request needs to be placed with the company that your domain name is registered with, this is known as your domain registrar.

The domain modification/transfer process is the complete responsibility of the customer (the domain owner). If you need assistance transferring your domain name, please contact your domain registrar for technical support - you've paid for this support by virtue of owning a domain name with the registrar. It is important to understand that Florinin.net. has no more power to transfer your domain than a complete stranger would.

In order for Florini to correctly resolve your domain name to the IP address of your hosting account, your domain name nameservers must reflect the following Florini.net. server information.

Nameserver 3: ns2.florini.net
Netaddress  3: 216.157.145.12
Nameserver 4: ns3.florini.net
Netaddress  4: 216.157.145.13

To provide additional security and management capabilities it is advised that Florini listed as the technical contact for your domain.

If your domain name was purchased through your previous hosting company please contact that hosting company for information on contacting your domain registrar.

Microsoft Frontpage

Question:
Microsoft FrontPage info.
Answer:

Florini DOES NOT provide direct technical support related to the use of your FrontPage software.

Answers to questions you may have about using Microsoft's FrontPage on our NT Servers. NOTE: For specific information on How to use the FrontPage software, please consult the program's documentation or Microsoft Technical Support (link to http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.asp). Or goto the Frontpage home page at http://microsoft.com/frontpage/

What is meant by “we Support FrontPage extensions”?

According to Microsoft's documentation for FrontPage Web Presence Providers, "Installing the FrontPage Server Extensions gives your customers full support for all of the features of FrontPage. This includes remote authoring, threaded discussion groups, full-text search, and surveys." Florini supports Microsoft FrontPage in several ways: We configure your site for FrontPage by installing and maintaining the server extensions. We provide Technical Support related to the functionality of the extensions. We point FrontPage users to resources that will help you solve problems, publish your FrontPage webs and learn techniques for getting the most from your FrontPage software. Florini DOES NOT provide direct technical support related to the use of your FrontPage software. User issues are referred to Microsoft's Technical Support Team (Link to http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.asp)

What are “Server Extensions”?

FrontPage Extensions are programs which provide the server side implementation of FrontPage. FrontPage communicates with the extensions via HTTP using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC). When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to the FrontPage server extensions it simply directs the request to the appropriate program. The extensions implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, ToDo Lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and administrator privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time WebBot components). Without the FrontPage Server Extensions you will not be able to take advantage of the WebBots that are available through FrontPage. Also, without the extensions you cannot author and administer your web using the tools provided as part of the FrontPage Editor/Explorer package.

How do I get the FrontPage extensions installed on my site?

New Accounts - Check the box on the order form indicating that you want the FrontPage extensions. New domains that request the FrontPage extensions when the order is placed will have the extensions installed within 2 days of activation. Existing Accounts - To have the FrontPage server extensions installed on your existing site, send an email request to support@florini.net with the following information: Your domain name, Your user name, Your request for FrontPage extensions, Confirmation that you have a back-up of any web pages currently on the site. (In most cases it is not necessary to delete files currently on the site to install the extensions. However, if there are directories or files with special permissions (.htaccess) these will have to be removed. You can then re-establish permissions and password protection via the FrontPage Explorer.) On existing sites, the installation will generally be done within 24 hours. Upgrading - All FrontPage extensions have been upgraded to FrontPage 2000 (the Security Update extensions) per Microsoft.

Is there a charge for the server extensions?

There is no charge for installing the server extensions. Florini will also reinstall corrupted extensions free of charge.

Are there any limitations when publishing with FrontPage?

There are some issues which potential FrontPage users should consider:

Web size -- This seems to be most critical when a "searchable event" is present in the web (Search, Discussion Forum and Table of Contents). The lengthy process of updating the indices for these functions can lead to the connection timing-out (HTTP 500 Error or 'Server has timed-out'). Disk Usage -- You may create and publish as many child webs as your disk storage space allows. However, for each child web you publish, FrontPage duplicates certain information into indices and hidden files. This adds "overhead", increasing the storage space required for your files. Microsoft's documentation notes, "FrontPage 97's optional full-text search indexes can take up to the same amount of disk space as your textual content."

Can I use FTP as well as FrontPage to manage my site?

There are several precautions which need to be taken to protect the FrontPage extensions on your site: a) Setting passwords, limiting access, setting file permissions or deleting directories or files in a FrontPage web should only be done through the options in FrontPage Explorer. b) Do NOT use regular FTP (such as WS_FTP) to upload files to the server when FrontPage extensions are installed. This may corrupt the extensions, disabling the interactive features available with FrontPage. NOTE: The exception to this is when loading custom scripts to the local directory on your site.

What is a WebBot?

WebBots are the mechanism for invoking many of the interactive features built into FrontPage. These features are added to your web through the FrontPage Editor | Insert WebBot Component Some, such as Include and Substitution allow elements of the web to be entered once and included in any or all of the pages by inserting the Bot component referencing that element (e.g. a logo or navigation bar). Changes made to the "master" element are made automatically to any page containing the referencing Bot. Other Bots, such as Search, Table of Contents and Timestamp, control dynamic browse-time features. These Bots work behind the scenes to keep the web up-to-date for visitors. For more information on using the Bots, see the documentation provided with FrontPage or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

Are all the features available in FrontPage supported?

Since FrontPage was created for developing web-sites in the Windows environment, all features are available are supported by Florini, however past experience has determined that some features do not display properly in the Netscape Browser.

Are there other resources to help me use FrontPage?

You may also find answers on many user issues at Microsoft's web-site (link to http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.asp), from newsgroups and, of course, in books on FrontPage. Or goto the Frontpage home page at http://microsoft.com/frontpage/

How do I use SSL (Secure Socket Layer) with FrontPage?

SSL can be used with FrontPage with these conditions: You must have an account with FrontPage extensions installed. You must request that your site be configured for SSL by sending an e-mail to support@florini.net . Please allow 24 - 48 hours for the configuration to be completed. You will be sent an email with instructions for setting up your SSL. For information on adding secure references to your web pages see Preferred Networking Solutions FAQ on invoking secure transactions (link to SSL page).

How do I Create a New Web in Microsoft FrontPage?

From the Start menu, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft FrontPage. The FrontPage Explorer starts. In the "Getting Started With Microsoft FrontPage" dialog box, click to select one of the three options under the "Create A New FrontPage Web" section. Click OK. If you selected the "From a Wizard or Template" option, the New FrontPage Web dialog box appears. In the Template Or Wizard list, select the template or wizard you want to use, and then click OK. The Web Template dialog box appears. In the "Web Server or File Location" box, type or select the web server (http://www.yourdomain.com) or directory you want to use.

If you installed a local Web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions successfully, the Web name already appears in this box. Select the default and go to step 4. If you did not install a Web server locally and you are not working with a remote Web server, type the drive and directory where you want to store the Web, and then click OK. In the "Name of New FrontPage Web" box, type the name you want. The web name should be one word and should not include spaces. If the Name and Password Required dialog box appears, type your name and password in the appropriate boxes, and then click OK. The FrontPage Explorer builds the new web. The web address is displayed in the title bar.

HTTP 404 Error When Using Web Publishing Wizard

When you use the Publish FrontPage Web command in FrontPage 97, you may receive the following error when you post to a Web server that doesn't have FrontPage Server Extensions installed:
The server may not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, or the server may be misconfigured, or you may have specified an invalid proxy server, or the web you are accessing may have been deleted. HTTP error 404.
While the Web Publishing Wizard can create subdirectories when you post files to an established directory on a destination server, it cannot create the Web directory it is posting to. The Web Publishing Wizard is designed only to post files to an existing directory. To avoid this error message, select the "Add to an existing FrontPage Web" check box, and verify that the directory listed in the "Destination FrontPage Web" box exists on the destination server. For more information about the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard, see the following Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/webpost

FrontPage Repeatedly Prompts for User Name, Password

This problem occurs when you attempt to open the or create a new web from a remote computer, if all of the following are true: The computer hosting the web is using user-level access control. (To locate this option, right-click the Network Neighborhood icon, click Properties, and then click the Access Control tab.) -and- The is hosted on the Microsoft Personal Web Server.
-and- There are no users or groups granted author or administrator access (in the Users and Groups tabs of the Permissions dialog box (Tools menu) for the . RESOLUTION To resolve this problem and allow users (including the original author of the Web) to author and administer the or subwebs remotely, set permissions for the or subwebs using FrontPage Explorer. NOTE: The instructions below only apply to user-level access.

1.In FrontPage Explorer, open the .
2.On the Tools menu, click Permissions.
3.Click the Users tab. Or, if you want to grant permissions to a group, click the Computers tab.
4.Click Add.
5.In the Add Users dialog box, type the name of the user in the Name box and the password in the Password and Confirm Password boxes. Under User Can, click either "Author and browse this web" or "Administer, author, and browse this web." Click OK.
6.Click OK. To set permissions for each subweb, click Permissions on the Tools menu, click the Settings tab, click "Use unique permissions for this web," click the Users or Computers tab, and then follow steps 1 through 6 for each subweb. In Microsoft FrontPage, you do not need to set permissions to author or administer webs locally from the Microsoft Personal Web Server. In contrast, the FrontPage Personal Web Server requires a name and password to author or administer webs remotely and locally. Administrators of a web can create or delete FrontPage webs, designate administrators and authors, and restrict access to a FrontPage web. Authors can create or delete pages from a FrontPage web.

Publishing FrontPage Webs

Establish a connection to the Internet (you MUST be online BEFORE beginning the publishing process - FrontPage does NOT invoke a dial-up connection) Select File | Open FrontPage Web and enter the name of your local Web Server to open your web locally. In FP Explorer, select File -> Publish FrontPage Web The Destination web server name should be http://www.yourdomain.com OR the IP address for a new account. The Destination web name field should be left BLANK if you are publishing to the root directory The Destination web name field should be left BLANK if you are publishing to the root directory Select the option "Add to an existing web" (OR If you are publishing a new subweb (child web) enter that name into the Destination Web Name field and UNCHECK the box for "Add to an existing web"). (OR If you are publishing a new subweb (child web) enter that name into the Destination Web Name field and UNCHECK the box for "Add to an existing web").To replace the temporary Home Page with your Home Page, you must do the following: After the publishing process is complete, DO NOT Recalculate Links. Select File | Close FrontPage Web, then File | Open FrontPage web for Web Server or file location, enter http://www.yourdomain.com or the IP address for a new account. Click List webs Select the , then OK This will open the web on the remote server. You can then rename the temporary page (based on the following information) to insure that your new page is accessible.

Home Page File Names

The opening page file name hierarchy is as follows: default.asp, default.htm, index.htm, index.html However, when you publish with FrontPage, if your opening file has any of the above names, it will be renamed to have ALL of the above. Highlight the page named Default.asp, default.htm, index.htm, index.html and select Edit | Rename. You may then rename the file to ANY ONE of the four options.

Using FrontPage

Question:
How do i use Front Page..
Answer:
Note: Florini does not offer any Frontpage technical support other than what is contained below. Read this page thoroughly or refer to the Frontpage Help menu located in the program. Additional Frontpage support should be directed to:
http://microsoft.com/frontpage/support/default.htm

About FrontPage Publishing:

When you are ready to display your web on the World Wide Web you must publish your web. Publishing a web is basically copying the files in your web to a destination, such as a Florini Web server, where others can browse the web.

Before publishing your web

Before you publish your web, you should make sure it is ready by checking for broken hyperlinks, verifying that the pages look the way you want them to, and testing the web to make sure that everything works. A good way to ensure your web is ready is by previewing it in a Web browser and navigating through the site, and by reviewing the status of your files in Reports view.

If you are going to publish your web to the World Wide Web, you'll need an Internet service provider (ISP), preferably one who has a Web server with the FrontPage Server Extensions installed such as Florini.. You'll also need to know Florini's Web server location for publishing your web, and your user name and password, if necessary. Refer to your Florini welcome email for FTP username and password.

How the server extensions affect publishing

There are several benefits to publishing to a Web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed:

Your web will have full FrontPage functionality when it is published. Without the server extensions, certain features will not work, such as most form handlers, search forms, hit counters, and component features.
FrontPage will maintain your files and hyperlinks — each time you publish the web, FrontPage compares the files on your local computer to the files on the Web server. For example, if you move a file in your local web, FrontPage will update and correct any hyperlinks to it, and then make the same corrections to the files on the Web server the next time you publish the web.
After you have published the web, you will be able to edit it directly on Florini's Web server (however, the local version of your web will not remain in sync).
If your Web server has the server extensions, FrontPage can publish your web using HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol). Otherwise, your web will be published using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). If your site does not have Frontpage extensions installed, you can request this free of charge by sending an email to support@florini.net.

Choosing the files to publish

You can choose which files you want to publish, and which ones you don't. For instance, if a page is incomplete or not directly part of your web, you can mark the file as Don't Publish. Later, if you decide to publish the file, for instance when you've completed a page, you can change its status to Publish.

Certain files should not be published again after you first publish your web. For example, you create a web with a guestbook, and then publish the web. Later, you update your web pages — if you publish all of your files, including the file that records guestbook information, you will save a blank guestbook over the existing one, losing all the information. Other examples include pages with a hit counter; discussion webs; and catalogs (if you are running Index Server).

You can also choose to publish only those files that have changed. FrontPage will compare the files in the working web on your local computer to the published files on the Web server. If FrontPage detects a newer version of a file on your local computer, the file will be published to the Web server.

Managing the files on the Web server

Since all of Florini's Hosting Plans have a size limit on the Web server, file management is a necessity. Periodically deleting unused or old files (especially graphics) can keep the size of your webspace down. Once you have published a web, FrontPage can synchronize the files on your local web with the published files on the Florini server, each time you publish again.

After you delete files on your local computer, FrontPage will prompt you about deleting the same files on the Web server when you publish your web again and choose to publish only pages that have changed.

If your Web server uses the FrontPage Server Extensions, FrontPage can also match other actions on the Web server, such as moving or renaming files, the next time you publish your web. FrontPage will update your navigation bars, shared borders, and hyperlinks on the Web server to match the actions you performed on the web on your local computer.

Publish a web using HTTP
Publish the files in the current web when you are ready to present your web for public viewing, or when you want to update the files in your web. You can publish using HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) if the the FrontPage Server Extensions are installed on the Web server to which you are publishing.

Before you publish your web, you can specify which pages you want to publish. Then, when you publish your web, you have the following options:

Publish only the files that have changed. FrontPage compares the files on your local web to the files on the Web server, and only those files that are newer than those on the Web server are published. However, files that have been marked Don't Publish will not be published.
Publish all files, except those that have been marked Don't Publish. The files from the local web will overwrite all files on the destination Web server, even if the files on the Web server are newer.
Publish subwebs, if the current web has subwebs. All files and folders in subwebs will be recursively published in addition to those in the current web.
Publish the web using a secure (SSL) connection. For example, use this feature if your Web server uses the HTTPS protocol to authenticate its users. For more info on Florini SSL capabilities click here
On the File menu, click Publish Web.
Click Options to expand the list of options.
Specify whether you want to publish only pages that have changed, or all pages.
To publish subwebs, select the Include subwebs check box.
To publish using a secure connection, select the Secure connection required (SSL) check box. Your destination Web server must support SSL for this feature to work.
In the Specify the location to publish your web to box, type the location of a Web server, click the arrow to select a location to which you have published before, or click Browse to find the publishing location.
Click Publish.
If you cancel publishing in the middle of the operation, files that have already been published remain on the destination Web server.

How Do I Set Up A VPN Connection To My Windows 2000 Server?

Question:
How Do I Set Up A VPN Connection To My Windows 2000 Server?

Answer:
NOTE: These instructions are for stand-alone Windows 2000 Servers. If you are running an Active Directory domain, the process will be somewhat different. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com.

Here are the steps to enable a VPN:

1. Click Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Routing and Remote Access

2. Find your server in the list. It should have (local) beside it. Right-click it.

3. Click "Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access".

4. Click Next.

5. Choose "Manually Configured Server".

6. Click Finish.

7. Click "Yes" to start the Routing and Remote Access service.

8. Right-click "Ports", choose Properties.

9. Decide whether you want to use PPTP or L2TP as your VPN protocol, or both. PPTP is older and accepted by more clients. L2TP is newer and more secure. If in doubt, choose both.

10. Click the protocol that you chose in the last step. Click "Configure".

11. Uncheck "Demand-dial routing connections (inbound and outbound).

12. In the "Phone number for this device" text box, enter your server's IP address. Click OK.

13. Repeat steps 10-12 for the other protocol, if you are using both.

14. To finish, right-click SERVERNAME(local)->All Tasks->Restart.

Now that the VPN is enabled, you still have to grant permissions to your users who need to VPN in:

1. Click Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Computer Management.

2. Double-click "Local Users and Groups".

3. Double-click the Users folder.

4. Double-click the user that you want to give VPN access.

5. Click the "Dial-in" tab.

6. In the top section, "Remote Access Permission", check Allow Access. Click OK.

7. Repeat for all users who should have VPN Access.

At this point, your clients are ready to connect. You will have to set up a connection on each client machine according to its particular method.

As an example, here is how a Windows 2000 client would make a VPN connection to your server:

1. Click Start->Settings->Control Panel.

2. Double-click "Network and Dial-up Connections".

3. Double-click "Make New Connection"

4. Click Next.

5. Choose "Connect to a private network through the Internet". Click Next.

6. Type the IP address of the VPN server. Click Next.

7. Choose whether to allow only your local user account or all user accounts to be able to use the VPN connection. Click Next.

8. Typically, you will not want to share this VPN connection. Click Next.

9. Type a name for the VPN connection. Click Finish.

10. You should now be able to log in via the VPN. Just provide a valid username and password, then click Connect.

You are now on the same LAN as the VPN server! You can map drives and use files in Windows Explorer, all via an encrypted connection.

If you have trouble connecting at this point, check to see if you have a firewall, either on your Florini server or on your local network, that might be blocking PPTP or L2TP traffic.

The Basics: File Transfer Protocol

How do i FTP?
Answer:
The Basics: File Transfer Protocol

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, which is the most common way of
transferring files from one computer to another. This is how most
uploading and downloading is done over the Internet. In this article
we're going to give you a general guide to using a graphical FTP program.
Because every FTP program is different, make sure you read your program's
documentation to learn about its specific features.

If you don't have an FTP program, you can download one. Here are some of
the more common programs for Windows:

WS_FTP http://www.wsftp.com/
CuteFTP http://www.cuteftp.com/
FTP Explorer http://www.ftpx.com/

And for Macintosh:

Fetch http://www.fetchsoftworks.com/

All of these allow you to download a free trial copy, which will work for
a limited amount of time. You may want to do this before you download the
non-free version to make sure you feel comfortable with it.
To upload files, first open your FTP program and connect to your server.
It will ask you for some information. Here's what you'll need to give it:

Host Name/Address: your Florini. server name, such as 65.57.230.1

If you don't know your server name, login to the Account Control Center:

http://controlcenter/

Once you're logged in, look for web options click there. It will say
IP Address: and will list your IP there. You'll just need to put
that in your FTP program.

User ID: your account username
Password: your account password

Generally anything else it asks for can be left alone, but check your
program's documentation if you have any problems.

Most, if not all, graphical FTP programs work in the same way. They have
a two-pane interface. On the left side are the files on your home
computer. On the right are the files on the server.

You'll want to make sure you upload your Web files to your Web directory.
So once you're connected to the server, double-click on the yourdomain.com
folder in the right pane.

Upload files by dragging them with your mouse from the left pane to
the right pane. There will also be a button (usually an arrow) that you
can click to do the same thing.

You can update a file on the server by simply uploading the revised copy
of the file. You'll get a message asking if you want to overwrite the old
file. Select 'yes.'

This should get you started using a graphical FTP program. To learn more,
please read your specific program's documentation

Connectivity Problems

Question:
I can't see my site. Why?
Answer:

If you receive the message "There is no DNS entry for http://www.yourdomain.com",/ there are several possible explanations: Try to reach the site using the IP address. If you are successful, the domain name is either not active or not yet propagated. For a NEW domain, it may take up to a week for the name to be released by InterNIC and propagated to DNS's (Domain Name Servers) throughout the Internet. (Foreign domains and transfers take longer). If it is an older domain that has previously been reachable, the name may be on hold with InterNIC. Contact InterNIC (link to networksolutions.com) directly to determine the reason the name is on hold. It may be due to non payment or a lost payment. If you can reach the site with the IP address and you know it has been more than 72 hours since the name was released by Inter
